I have given myself a deadline to finish proofing my novel before term starts. Ten days. Not long. But the truth is I can do it in a day if I put my mind to it. The danger is getting distracted into rewriting when it isn't really necessary. The worry is that I could just say the same thing in a different way. Repeat myself perhaps. Sometimes, a dalliance with more mellifluous prose inhibits the narrative thread. Sometimes, a whole new idea can feel imperative. Did you see that amazing sunset the other day?
